Patient Reception & Handover

Upon arrival of the patient, team leader shall perform rapid initial assesment to assess:

  • Airway patency
  • Central pulse
  • To look any visible exsanguinating hemorrhage

 

Do a structured handover using ATMIST

 

A - Age

  •         Provide the patient's age and gender.
  •         Example: "A 45-year-old male..."

 

T - Time of Incident

  •         State when the incident occurred.
  •         Example: "...was involved in an accident at 14:30 hours..."

 

M - Mechanism of Injury

  •         Describe how the injury happened.
  •         Example: "...due to a high-speed motorcycle collision..."

 

I - Injuries Found and/or Suspected

  •         List observed injuries and those suspected based on the mechanism.
  •         Example: "...sustaining open fractures to the left femur and suspected internal abdominal injuries..."

 

S - Signs (Vital Signs)

  • Report vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and level of consciousness.
  • Example: "...with a heart rate of 120 bpm, blood pressure of 90/60 mmHg, respiratory rate of 28 breaths per minute, oxygen saturation at 92%, and is responsive to pain..."

 

T - Treatment Initiated

  • Outline any treatments or interventions that have been provided.
  • Example: "...received on-scene immobilization, intravenous fluids initiated, and bleeding controlled with a tourniquet."
